Suppliers’ bartering power is moderately low because of the way that there are just three prevailing lager firms in the Japanese brew industry, which are Sapporo, Kirin, and Asahi. Buyers’ bartering power is additionally moderately low due to a similar explanation. Item separation diminishes the haggling intensity of purchasers on account of the high exchanging cost among lager and other substitutes.General wholesalers have additionally dealing power since they can change from one firm to the others. In any case, the inverse is valid for the restrictive wholesalers. The contention among contenders inside this oligopoly showcase is high. This contention is primarily because of the ease of impersonation. The brew organizations contend dependent on the taste and the promoting. The gainfulness of this industry is fundamentally depended by low danger of new contestants, brand dedication, limit development, restricted rack dividing, and financial of scales.Other factor which impacts the industry’s execution and benefit is government guideline which expects firms to claim licenses for assembling lagers, selling brews, and opening up new plants. To keep up solid brew rivalry, the service of account likewise sets high expense on lagers and value floor level at which organizations should value their lagers at. Due to the help from Sumitomo Bank, Asahi’s money related influence has been solid. Account Director Hiroshi Okada reaffirmed the open that Asahi has a low income hazard since its stocks are doing very well in the market. The organization extends a 7% deals development for the following scarcely any years, yet regardless of whether the deals doesn't emerge, Asahi won't run into chapter 11 since it has loads of underestimated resources, which can be offered to create a lot of riches to help the company’s peration. This solid money related influence is both interesting and worth added to Asahi’s future development. Asahi’s unmistakable fitness likewise originates from its specialists and professionals, yet its lack of deals faculty, regulatory staffs, and enormous merchants are compromising the company’s future execution and development. Higuchi the executives style’s constructive outcome may not keep going long in light of the absence of stren gthening. There will likewise be increment in the expense of recruiting and holding 800 progressively lasting representatives, and drawing in increasingly enormous wholesalers, which have generally been caught by Kirin. Other potential reasons are the inability to meet distributors’ desire, the considerable vulnerability of its future execution, and the absence of market inclusion in eastern Japan. Asahi’s physical limit is another key shortcoming that confines its future development. It requires some investment for Asahi to acquire new licenses and construct new plants. There may likewise be expectations to absorb information that hinder the creation or increment creation costs. Other than its solid money related influence, Asahi has other fixed points of interest that are economical and basic for its future success.Asahi’s Research ; Development office is solid in items advancement and market pattern investigation. Asahi is likewise exceptionally devoted and special in its item plan. Since the â€Å"post-dry† time, advancement in new taste and uniqueness in bundling are the key achievement factors for the brew business. In the dry brew portion, Asahi has a portion of the principal mover favorable circumstances and picked up notoriety as the main genuine dry lager. Subsequently, the ability to pay for Asahi’s dry lager is a lot higher than its expenses. By and large, Asahi worked in the concentrated separation methodology with accentuation on marking and new item development.Summary and Solutions Ever since Higuchi assumed control over the CEO job, Asahi has been changing the general brand picture by propelling the new Super Dry lager. Higuchi needs the purchasers and contenders to realize that Asahi is resolved to be the best lager maker in the market. A portion of his splendid moves are: began utilizing premium Germany malt as the decision of crude materials, allowed forceful spending plan on publicizing and advancement, and caused a request to rev iew all to the â€Å"old label† lagers in the market while propelling the new Asahi Draft. In a brief timeframe, in spite of the fact that customers have reacted decidedly to Asahi’s Super Dry, Asahi is as yet messed with issues, for example, pressure on conveyance direct limit and need deals power. Along these lines, the accompanying arrangements have been given to address these issues. Expecting that Japanese individuals esteem faithfulness, it would not be insightful to end the relationship with the current merchants and change to one who has higher capacity. Therefore, to build the limit of the wholesalers, Asahi ought to give assets by loaning capital or in part securing the wholesalers, who experienced limit issues, so these merchants could satisfy Asahi’s client request. Thusly, it will prompt higher bartering power for Asahi and better associations with the merchants. In any case, this arrangement is moderately cost serious. To improve its business, Asahi ought to consider growing its market both locally and universally. As lager is regularly connected with sports, parties, night life, and so forth. Asahi could improve their residential deals by focusing on their showcasing effort on those portions. One route is to employ a reference gathering, for example, big name, to advance its dry brew. For instance, Asahi could employ Ichiro, a Japanese expert baseball player, and get him to advance Asahi’s Super Dry. Moreover, â€Å"fresh rotation† is known to be a key achievement factor in the Japanese brew industry. Accepting it is legitimate in Japan, Asahi could set brew corners in grocery store or cafés for customers to test their beers. These showcasing efforts could build Asahi’s brand acknowledgment and lift up their deals. In any case, there are dangers that buyers with youngsters or who are in the counter liquor projects may contradict this system. Concerning worldwide extension, Asahi could send out their Super Dry brew to different nations, however this methodology is dangerous as various nations have various societies and they probably won't care for the flavor of Asahi’s lager. Asahi ought to likewise focus on its fundamental upper hands, development and packaging.First, Asahi should continue advancing new kinds of lager which would suit the market’s taste. Asahi could likewise give some customization (I. e. pictures, trademarks) on their bundling for buyers who are eager to buy in huge volume. Doing so would permit Asahi to remain on the highest point of the line with regards to following the market pattern and separating from its rivals. Notwithstanding, this arrangement is generally expensive. Other option is to create multidimensional competit

Project Management Assignment Analysis Of Communication - 2200 Words

Project Management Assignment: Analysis Of Communication (Essay Sample) Content: PROJECT MANAGEMENT- MOTOR POINTStudents NameCode + Course NameProfessors NameUniversity NameCity, StateDateProject Management- Motor PointInitiationDue to the high rate of competition in business, more techniques and skills need to be applied in order to move a step further in regards to the company expansion. A business has no limits no matter its size. It should keep on expanding and stakeholders in business need to identify their strengths and weaknesses (Blake, 2016 p.46). Therefore, stakeholders should be committed and ready to identify any supportive factor than can be applied to bear more fruits. The process of initiation depends on the nature of the business. The factors that suit it better need to be applied. However, to adhere to that, any formulation of development will always be compromised. Its the duty of managers and financial analysts to understand what a business does best and what it is capable of doing in the future if several adjustments were to be done (Liu et al, 2009 p.202). Therefore, the objectives should be attainable within the proposed time and with the available resources and personnel. In this case, Motor Point is the main focal point of the study. It has been a small business renting cars in my area but it has grown tremendously over the last five years. Not because that this company does not experience competition, but the company and its stakeholders have been committed to serve the public with passion. With the desire to be more successful in business, the company plans to open four additional branches in the next year. What shows that the business is expanding? Ideally, the number of employees has been increasing from 25 to 100 within a span of five years. This is a clear indication that the demand has been high and there is increase in the number of customers. To maintain and attract more customers and recognition, more branches have to be set up in different parts of the country to ensure it meets the market d emand (Zhu et al, 2006 p.1559). To incorporate better services and setting of the desired branches, cost estimation has to be done to deduce a rough manuscript of the time and resources required to accomplish the desired plan.Resource costing is a typical move towards the cost estimation. The resources need to be analyzed together with their cost. In this case, there is need to have structures. These are meant to be offices, garages and parking grounds. To expand the business, we need to have an additional of 40 cars and there is also need to increase the number of employees to a rough estimation of 160 employees. 40 employees in each of the new branches and maybe more could be added later when the business the operation is successful. To attain this, a sum of about $ 950, 000 is required for accomplishment of the initial stages of the project. A span of 6-8 months is required to accumulate and save enough funds. Also to ensure that the business commences in a high level of technolo gy, an addition of $100,000- $200, 000 is required to facilitate online website and computers. This can be done through the advertisement of PM motors in different platforms and also delivery of internet aided services to the customers. This may entail online services like booking of cars or in case of any query. The above stated cost is covers a wide range of tasks. The company needs to perform initial tasks before the project is brought into practice. It has to acquire the recommended number of employees and train them accordingly to fit in the job structure (Liu et al, 2009 p.207). Tax payment should also be considered and therefore the final cost for the project will be roughly $ 1.3 million. This is not a small amount of budget but can be made possible through extensive saving and application for loans to supplement the cost.PlanningAnalysis of CommunicationTo ensure realization of this project, a lot has to be done to attain a good flow of the recommended steps. This begins w ith the steps and duties assigned to each employee. Every individual has to perform his or her part as expected to realize maximum results. Employees should learn to be self-driven and to perform tasks without being pushed. Passion and love for the job is the most important aspect in ensuring that Motor Point maintains high ethical standards. Understanding and cooperation is very important among all members of staff. With cooperation, definitely all tasks will be effectively accomplished leading to better results (Blake, 2016 p.48). Above all, communication is essential between members of staff or between the company and its customers.Communication is the key factor in any business (Kerzner, 2013, p.91). There must be a clear channel of passing information between the business holder and customers to facilitate understanding and feedback. Customers have to request for what suits them well. On the other side, the service provider or the company has to take into consideration the lik es and dislikes of the customers and respond to them appropriately. Many businesses are affected by the inability to pass information to their customers. With this type of technology, communication has to be more digitalized for easy delivery.Motor points understand the importance of clear channels of communication with customers. Through the several consultations and analysis done, the manager should be able to realize the need to adjust the nature of communication to improve the flow of information in the organization (Heagney, 2016 p. 136). Due to the fact that customers are the most important party in a business, they have to be given what they consider quality and satisfactory services. The branches to be established are so many in such a way that analog methods of communication cannot be able to serve the increasing number of customers. A customer should not waste a lot of time trying to reach the company for them to book a car. Booking has to be done online to avoid congestio ns and delay in the offices. The process becomes tedious when people have to queue in order to be served. Now with this electronic method of booking, all services and feedback can be issued instantly and from anywhere. A customer can either book a car, cancel an appointment, request to be picked up, submit complaints or compliments with the new online platform service. On the same point, internet services enable the staff to tracks the customers as allocated just with the use of GPS system (Kerzner, 2013, p.91). This is a major achievement as it saves time for travelling to book a car; hence, the customer will be more interested in the new services introduced. Also, with the use of technology, various websites can be created to enhance the showcasing of the company services, culture and its nature in general. For instance, the company can decide to post all information regarding the type of cars they offer and the cost per each. Customers will be aware before proceeding for an appoin tment and this facilitates answering of any queries pertaining to the terms and conditions of booking. In addition, there could be introduction of several payment channels like PayPal to avoid direct handling of cash (Zhu et al, 2006 p.1562).Work breakdown structurePlanning and breakdown of work structure require specialization and concentration to avoid messing up other steps. Order has to be followed to avoid skipping or failing to attend on some parts. Firstly, the managerial staff of Motor Point should identify the most suitable locations where the branches have to be placed. This is done by checking the level of competition or the availability of similar investments in the same area (Brown et al, 1991 p.55). The population of people and their taste should also be considered. The best area to locate such a business is an area with a large population and areas where people depend on car hire. Simply, this can be identified through carrying out a minor report to compile data conce rning the market structure and diversity of the population.Next part is acquiring the required amount of cash to facilitate the commencement of the project. Without cash, the project plan stagnates and the implementation becomes a problem. The period for acquiring enough cash is a span of 8 months as per the plan. The total of $1.3 million can be achieved through savings made and acquiring of loans to be paid later depending on the interest set. After obtaining the required starting capital, the next step is setting up the required structures in the areas identified. The structures have to adhere to the recommendation and the care should be taken to avoid overspending at the initial stages (Blake, 2016 p.58). They should also put into consideration, the technology status required hence modern and effective technology is essential. Then the rooms have to be made appealing and favorable for the job, ensuring security and finally booking and securing of parking grounds. After constructi on and setting up of structures, the next step is to order for the cars from the intended companies. Each must have a maximum of 40 cars made of different designs to provide varieties of taste for the customers. When this step is accomplished, then the project is due to begin and stakeholders will gain the breakthrough of earning productive returns. To mark the commencement and official opening of the branches, personnel have to be hired through interviews. This is meant to acquire the most competent and capable people to do the job (Heagney, 2016 p. 172). The last step is training the hired workforce and introducing them to the various job specializations. This has to done by the managerial staff depending on how much they expect from the employees. After training then the project will be ready to begin with the help of new managers.ExecutionAfter proper preparations for the project, employees work to their...

Sexism In Holden Salingers The Catcher In The Rye

â€Å"All of a sudden, this girl came up to me and said, â€Å"Holden Caulfield!† Her name was Lillian Simmons. My brother D.B. used to go around with her for a while. She had very big knockers†(salinger 96). In â€Å"The Catcher in the Rye† Holden is portrayed as a whiny teenager that slacks off on his homework and performs illegal acts such as drinking and purchasing prostitutes. On top of that, another inappropriate characteristic Holden has is being sexist. The book itself is also sexist because of the way the main character thinks about women, the way the main character treats women, and the roles women play in the novel. Though Holden is still a maturing boy that is hyped up on testosterone, he thinks about women too provocatively. Any women she†¦show more content†¦So that I’d tell old D.B. about it†(Salinger 97). So either way she loses in this scenario, either being rude and getting made fun of and sexualized, or being nice and pres umed to just wanting to look good for D.B. and not actually caring. The way Holden introduces Lillian is unfair and gives her a bad wrap throughout the rest of the story. The last idea to keep in mind is the roles the females are given in the book. Mrs. Antolini, for instance, is forced to do all the chores at home. â€Å"Coffee, Gentlemen, finally,† Mrs. Antolini said. She came in carrying this tray with coffee and cakes and stuff on it. â€Å"Holden, don’t you even peek at me. I’m a mess†(Salinger 204). Mr.Antolini makes Mrs. Antolini prepare for Holden’s arrival, even though it is his guest and not hers. And on another occasion Holden gets ahold of not one but two prostitutes. He calls one by phone and gets rejected, the second time however he is offered in person by the elevator boy, Maurice. Holden agrees to purchase her for â€Å"a throw†. To his surprise she was as young as him. â€Å"She was very nervous, for a prostitute. She really was. I think it was because she was young as hell. She was around my age†(Salinger 105). The fact that this book condones prostitution as a social norm is atrocious. It shouldn’t be an option for women to sell their bodies in such a ma nner and this book makes it seem like a common choice women make. Holden did however make fun of D.B. by saying he was aShow MoreRelatedThe Role Of Women In Catcher In The Rye1013 Words   |  5 Pagesbackground for your question. Since hiring them, we have increased our sales to 400%, which is a significant result.’ You should also mention any specific and unique services or offers the company has. In such a way, you will give them more value. It is a great factor when users decide whether to choose a particular company or not. You can say ‘We were pleasantly surprised to get an extra month of their services for free.’ Don’t Forget About a Personal Note In case the result has exceeded your expectations, you can mention it by praising the company or a particular person. You can even give names and tell that it was a pleasure working with them. It is very important because the employees you mention can be rewarded by the company. You can also distinguish a particular employee even if the whole team worked perfectly well. For example, ‘Members of the team managed to promote and sell our product within tightest deadlines, but John did, even more, devoting lots of time to communicating with potential customers. We are sure that without his efforts, the results would be not so great.’ Quantify the Results If you want to impress readers and to give them a clear picture of what to expect from a product or service, it is important to give numbers. Moreover, they should match those, which you used to explain your issue. For example, if you are writing a testimonial for an advertiser and your main problem is a low quantity of sales, you should indicate an exact number you had before and after cooperating with a particular company. Tell How You Surpassed the Obstacles Discuss how you feel about the problems that you have faced and indicate whether they were as big as you have imagined before working with the chosen company or product. For example, if you couldn’t decide whether to work with XXX because of their high fees, it is necessary to highlight whether the result was eventually worth it. This section is the last one in the body part of your testimonial, and now you only need to come up with the conclusion. Summarize Your Experience In a few sentences, explain how the product or service helped to solve your problem. This should be the third paragraph of your review. You should also write a few words about why you decided to leave a testimonial. For example, ‘When John from XXX advertiser asked whether I could write a testimonial about their service, I didn’t hesitate, because they did a great job and it was the least I could do for them.’ Would you Recommend the Service to Others? A good testimonial always contains encouragement, which motivates other users to try out the service and to benefit from them. For a better result, you can refer to a certain group of people based on the niche you are occupying. For example, ‘I recommend XXX services to owners of enterprises that are only starting their path and know nothing about their market.’ Include a Call for Action Although you have already recommended the product or service to the reader, you can still make additional encouragement to motivate others and to pay extra attention to the company. For example, ‘If you are launching a new product, just call XXX advertiser! They provide outstanding services, and the first consultation is free of any charges.’ Why Testimonials Are so Important Here are only some of the reasons why testimonials are important: Higher conversion rates By reaching the target audience, they can stimulate interest and increase the activity of potential users and customers. A tool to study the behavior of customers Reading testimonials is a great way to know what other people think about a particular product or service. It is a well-known fact that people are more willing to risk their money to purchase a new item if they previously get familiar with positive feedbacks. Proof of success When a person reads testimonials and sees that others have reached success due to a particular product or company, they also want to try it out. They make your product more value If you are an owner of such a service or company, testimonials are a great way to persuade potential customers. Instead of filling your website with watery texts, you can add a separate testimonial page. Features of a Good Testimonial It should be brief and straight to the point. In most of the cases people won’t read a long and watery text, simply skipping it; It should be direct. You should make clear statements so that the readers can understand them at once; It should be original and written from scratch. No copies or generic messages. Where to Place Testimonials To reach a maximum number of readers, place feedbacks on many different websites. Place them on the page of products or services. In such a way readers will see relevant comments at once; Place them on popular websites. This is one of the most effective tools, because such pages have more visitors, so more people will see the testimonial; To increase the conversion rate, place the testimonial on optimized pages; Place them on a landing page; Place them on a home page; Create a separate page with testimonials; Place on sidebars within quotation marks; Place on page with stories from customers. Testimonials for Your Business A customer testimonial is a feedback that is written by a customer, who is satisfied with the quality of a product or service. Such testimonial motivates others to try the product or company out. It helps to build a reputation. Testimonials give information about why others like your services or products. This is a great way to attract more customers and to build a solid reputation because more and more people will share what they like about your product; It creates trust between your company and customers. This can have a positive impact on the company because when customers tell about their positive experience with your services, they give others a chance to know more about your enterprise; A chance to overcome skepticism. Reviews attract more and more customers, familiarizing them with your services and products, and the way others benefited from cooperating with them; Testimonials are objective. Unlike your own descriptions, testimonials tell about the experience of other users and deliver a clear picture of the pros and cons your product or service has; It gives a chance to learn what others think about the services and products you provide. In such a way, you can improve the qualities of your services and create a tighter bond with your customers. You can ask them for testimonials, creating a separate draft letter. With its help, you can also encourage them to share your feedback with other users and to explain how their testimonial will be used. In case a particular customer has left a comment via a personal letter, you need to ask for permission to make it public. Remember, private feedbacks should never be posted without the previous permission of a client; Testimonials can promote your product or services in case the message is positive (i.e. ‘this company is the best’ or ‘their product is excellent’). It is a great tool to explain all of the benefits of your company or product. For example, ‘XXX company helped to significantly increase the number of sales: from 500 to 1700 in a single month.’ This will greatly improve interest in your company because readers would also want to get the same improvements for their own enterprises and businesses; Testimonials help to prove your points. Quality testimonials will surely explain how your product or company can provide the best services to ensure the prosperity of your enterprise. In addition, they will explain why the service or product is beneficial for a particular group of customers. It will also show that you keep your words and meet all of the expectations. It is one of the most effective ways of attracting more and more customers to your company; Positive testimonials will help your product to stand out. If a big number of reviewers will tell about the benefits of your company, more and more people will be encouraged to choose you instead of your competitors. Through testimonials, users will get more information about your product and will be aware of all the positive effects it has. Hopefully, this guide has given you all the information you need to know on writing testimonials and making them one of the most powerful instruments in achieving success!

What is the best way to educate the U.S. workforce Essay

What is the best way to educate the U.S. workforce - Essay Example workforce held jobs that did not require a college degree [Kangas, n.d.], indicating that there was glut of over qualified people at the top, as a result of which many of them are being displaced downwards, making it even more difficult for non-graduates to secure jobs. The welfare reform legislation which was signed into force in 1998, has introduced the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Act, that operates upon the principle of â€Å"work first† as opposed to the â€Å"training first† option that was in force before. A broad based training policy has proved to be difficult to implement, since the U.S. labor market is fragmented.[Carnevale, 1999]. Thus, the Workforce Investment Act was also introduced to reform the Government training programs for welfare recipients [Haittiangadi, 1998]. Prior to this, the School to Work opportunities Act of 1994 has introduced vocational and apprenticeship programs as a part of the high school curriculum [Schaffer, 1999]. Th is was first initiated in Broome County in 1990, in an effort to implement the German apprenticeship model in the United States school curriculum [Emanoil, 2001], and prepare students better to make the important transition from school to workplace. What is the best way to educate the U.S. workforce? The validity of traditional academic- based systems of education are being questioned as they produce students who are poorly equipped with the skills required at work, especially in today’s techno-savvy environment. They are distracted in class, working after school at low paying, part time jobs where everything of value is generally learnt within a short period of time and they stay on for purely financial reasons. However, the net result is that they remain stagnant at the low level jobs and rarely advance higher. The other side of the same coin is the â€Å"massification† of education with student base expansion since the 1980s [Alexander,

A Cosi Fan Tutte Opera Theatre Report Research Paper

A Cosi Fan Tutte Opera Theatre Report - Research Paper Example The performances were divided into a series of acts with each act being as intriguing as the next. The first act began with the officer’s confidence in their fiancà ©es faithfulness being challenged by their confidant Alfonso, who is played by Daniel Ewart and Aaron Petrovitch. This act involves the fake departure of the officers, the morning of their lovers and the arrival of the Albanians. It comprises deception by the Albanians, Don Alfonso and the housemaid, Despina who is played by Leah Brzyski and Alina Tamborini. Personally, I found the singing much more captivating than the acting, more so for the first two acts. The harmonics brought the audience in the mood and kept them attentive. The attempts of the gentlemen to seduce their lovers were quite hilarious especially having them pretend to be dying. However, it was a bit disappointing as some of the songs sang did not match the personalities of the characters performing it. It did not make sense how Fiordiligi, her si ster and Alfonso could present such a lovely song as the soldiers went off for war yet there are supposed to be self-centered. As the performance continued into the second and third days, it became less about the music for me but more about seeing what would happen next. The actors did not utilize the stage well during the succeeding acts so the only way to continue with the flow of the story was to listen to the music. This was quite disappointing especially because the first act ended in a lot of suspense.

Money or Happiness Essay Example for Free

Money or Happiness Essay The general belief is that the rich tend to pamper their children by buying them all sorts of â€Å"toys†, while the poorer children do not do this because they cannot afford to. It is usually presented in stories- especially in movies that rich children are bad while those from poorer families struggle all their lives. Consequently it may be believed that children from rich families are happier than those from poorer ones. This may be the case in some instances, but is definitely not always true. Children can be happy whether they are from rich or poor families. We hear of cases where poor families make all sorts of sacrifices so that their children – or one of them – can have a certain comfort. Fathers are known to work at extra jobs so that their children can have expensive toys for Christmas or for their birthdays. On the other hand, the children of the rich are not always given everything they want. Rich fathers are known to make their children work for a living and earn their pocket money. Other fathers have refused to give their children expensive toys so that they will learn the value of hard work. Hence it is not the riches of the parents that can make the children happy but what the parents do to the child. Happiness can never be equated with having money or having rich parents for that matter. It is possible that poor parents have a close relationship with their child. In this way the child has something far better; it has love. Having enough love, the child will be happy – at least much happier than if it did not receive love. On the other hand it is possible that the child of rich parents have everything she wants but does not get the love and concern that she needs. The parents of rich children are sometimes too busy spending their money and earning more. Often we hear stories of â€Å"poor little rich children†. Though many of the stories we hear are fiction, some of them are real indeed. Sometimes the parents of rich children believe that their child will be happy if he is provided with everything he needs. They try to substitute money for love and care. In such instances, the rich child can be very happy indeed. In addition, children brought up in this way tend to be very poor in relationships. They do not know how to value things like friendships. Such a child is poor indeed, in spite of being financially rich. Using money and surrounding himself with all sorts of toys the child is apt to grow up with the wrong sense of what is true happiness. Then one day when he realizes that money does not always buy happiness, he will not know which way to turn. Hence children from rich families may not always be happier than those from poorer families. In fact both are capable of being happy, with or without money.

Myth Or Reality, Todays Perception On Monsters :: essays research papers

Myth or Reality, Today's Perception on Monsters Monsters, which are seemingly just myth and fantasy, do have some truths to their legend. In fact, some creatures may have actually existed and still do today, even though they should not be percieved as monsters. What if the stories of a giant "ape-like" creature that have circulated over the globe for centuries were true? There have been numerous sightings and first-hand accounts of this creature everywhere in the world, from the United States to the Himalayas. One of the more famous sightings took place at Bluff Creek in 1967. Roger Patterson and a friend were horse back riding when they saw a huge hair covered creature. It began to run away when it noticed the two men, but not before Roger shot some film of the creature. The creature that was filmed was a female, while you cannot see in this view, breasts are clearly visable in other frames of the film. Scientists who have studied the film have said that the estimated stride of the creature is larger than that of a man. They also say it would have been very difficult for a man to simulate this larger stride. Footprints were the same type as typically found at a Bigfoot sighting. A more recent sighting of Bigfoot took place last year on July 11, in the Wild Creek area in the foothills of Snoqualmie National Forest. The picture was obtained from the photographer bt Cliff Crook, the director of Bigfoot Central. The cameraman was out on a hike when he heard splashing coming from the stream below him. He then found himself face to face with the creature. Usually after most sightings, footprints of the usually large creatures can be found. Footprints have been found everywhere including at these two mentioned sightings. The length of the prints has varied between 1' to 2.5' indicating from scientific study that Bigfoot could be as tall as nine feet. Also the deep inprint that is left indicates that the creature could weigh as much as 600 pounds. Researchers at Ohio State University hope to come within a hair of verifying the existence of Bigfoot. Scientists are using a new DNA matching process to determine whether there may be more to the Sasquatch legend than some blurry film footage and a few giant footprints. The evidence consists of two tufts of hair, each withabout a dozen individual strands, recovered in Washington State after a recent sighting. "This is the first time that I'm aware of that anybody will be able to do any DNA extractions

Perinatal Mental Health Midwife

Application for Temporary perinatal health midwife There is increasing awareness of perinatal mental health as a public health issue. The Government is keen for midwives to further develop their role in public health. Midwives need to be adequately prepared to take on a more developed role in perinatal mental health if practice improvements are to be made. I am aware that death from psychiatric causes has been the leading cause of maternal death for the last few years. Although the most recent Confidential Enquiry into Maternal and Child Health indicated that this is no longer a leading cause, mental health problems before and after childbirth have a significant impact on the health of women, family relationships and children’s subsequent development. I believe that midwives need to be able to detect women with current mental health problems and those at high risk of a serious mental illness following delivery, in order to improve the care and support offered to them throughout their contact with maternity services. One of the most serious areas where we see ongoing harm is in adult mental health. Recent research shows that a large proportion of adult mental health problems can be laid at the door of early childhood. We need to consider the likely future effects of not breaking the cycle while these people are young. The ACE Study estimates that 54 per cent of current depression and 58 percent of suicide attempts in women can be attributed to adverse childhood experiences, which also correlate with later high levels of alcohol and drug consumption. In order to screen systematically and sensitively, and to enable them to refer on appropriately, I feel that midwives need to understand why they are asking questions about mental health; how to encourage women to disclose past and current problems; what the risks of recurrence and relapse are; and what services are available in their area of practice. 1|Page I feel very strongly that having post graduate qualifications and experience like my own in counselling and different approaches to psychotherapy are essential attributes for this post. The facts about childbirth and mental illness are startling (reference, Oates M 2001): About one in ten women will develop postnatal depression after delivery. < After psychosis (puerperal) postnatal develop will women 500 in one> Suicide is one of the leading causes of maternal death in the UK. A woman is 20 times more likely to be admitted to a psychiatric hospital in the two weeks after delivery than at any time in the two years before or after. Despite this, talking about and confronting the issue of mental illness during pregnancy or the postnatal period still poses challenges for healthcare professionals. Motherhood is loaded with emotive expectation. This contributes to a large number of cases of perinatal mental illness going undiagnosed. This can have serious consequences including poor bonding between mother and baby; reduced quality of life for the mother, baby and father; prolonged disability caused by living with an untreated serious mental illness; and potential risk to the health and safety of the mother, baby or other family member, either through neglect or harm due to illness. As a midwife with 20 yrs of clinical practice and with some experience as a service user, I was pivotal in setting up the current bereavement service and have been Counselling women and their families at West Middlesex Hospital since June 2009. I also have experience of providing supportive psychotherapy to a diverse range of clients with differing pathologies in a primary care and private setting since 1999. In my Role as Midwifery Matters facilitator (2007-2009) South East Strategic Health Authority, I regularly travelled across the patch, giving presentations to multi professional audiences. I am confident in designing, producing and presenting a 2|Page range of presentations, including role play, power point, interpersonal workshops and formal lecture format. I have experience in writing academic papers (published) and information leaflets, guidelines and information posters. I am a naturally creative person who enjoys implementing evidence based practice change at a strategic and operational level. I am very excited about the opportunity to be potentially involved with designing an E-learning package. Whilst working with other experts in this industry I have gained some knowledge in the process of elearning development. I think that routine antenatal and postnatal care present an excellent opportunity to screen the mental health of pregnant women and women with a new baby. To do this effectively however, requires working more collaboratively across different professions to meet the needs of our patients. Having the post of a specialist midwife in mental health could allow me to provide focused care to pregnant women with mental illness. This could include co-morbid substance & alcohol misuse problems. I envisage the role as working closely with a perinatal psychiatry team at W. M. U. H and as an important point of liaison between the other midwives, especially safeguarding and case loading midwives, obstetricians, health visitors, child and family social services, obstetricians in the hospital, and mental health services. A useful means to achieve partnership working would be for the S. M. M. H to attend the weekly midwifery team meeting. Here, all midwifery community and labour ward teams meet to discuss the caseload and update the antenatal progress notes. This provides a valuable opportunity for potential referrals to be discussed, both with the specialist mental health midwife and the perinatal lead psychiatrist/obstetrician. Many women will prefer and only require additional support and advice from a midwife with specialist expertise, rather than see a psychiatrist. However, some pregnant women will need to see a perinatal psychiatrist for expert advice, for example, if having severe mental illness, or to discuss medications in pregnancy or breastfeeding. 3|Page The referrals could be women with a history of mental illness during childbirth or preexisting mental illness who are now pregnant. However, quite often at booking or routine antenatal checks, midwives may pick up new onset psychological distress in pregnant women who have no history of mental illness. Women may at first feel more inclined to disclose things to a midwife rather than a psychiatrist or doctor. This may include apprehension or fear centred on the impending delivery itself, increased general anxieties about coping, depression or other psychological symptoms. The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence guidelines (2007) on antenatal and postnatal mental health have sought to address this, suggesting that at a woman’s first contact with primary care, at her booking visit and postnatally (usually at four to six weeks and three to four months), healthcare professionals (including midwives, obstetricians, health visitors and general practitioners) should routinely ask the following two screening questions to identify possible depression: During the past month, have you often been bothered by feeling down, depressed or hopeless? During the past month, have you often been bothered by having little interest or pleasure in doing things? A third question should be considered if the woman answers â€Å"yes’ to either of the initial questions: Is this something you feel you need or want help with? As a specialist mental health midwife, I would want to scope the current service and rapidly undertake a gap analysis to work towards providing equal access to perinatal mental health services. I could provide consultation and advice with the knowledge and skills that I already have and from which I accrue whilst undertaking my MSc in Psychodynamic approaches to Mental Health. I could perhaps investigate the possibility of providing a link to the local mother and baby unit. 4|Page In This role I could also act as a useful resource for other staff and support other midwives with their clients. They can be involved at an early stage in antenatal care and assist with monitoring women who may be developing or at risk of mental illness in childbirth. They can link up between physical and mental healthcare and can work in partnership with pregnant women to develop care plans for their individual needs. Having this post would give me the opportunity to hopefully address the stigma around mental illness and childbirth and improve screening and detection of women who need further specialist help — ultimately improving clinical outcomes and quality of life for new mothers and their families and long term financial benefits to the Trust and the N. H. S. A study of provision of perinatal mental health services has already been undertaken in two English strategic health authorities: views and perspectives of the multiprofessional team. Reports and policy recommendations have highlighted the need for early detection, appropriate referral and management. (Rowan1, McCourt 2 & Bick 3 (2010) This study has reported the in-depth views of relevant healthcare professionals on the extent to which perinatal mental health services are meeting policy and practice guidance. Their views highlight that although there have been developments in service provision, gaps persist particularly with respect to appropriate ongoing identification of needs and appropriate follow-up of women. Real challenges for the maternity ervices persist in relation to complex boundary issues that impacts on opportunities to support effective continuity of care and funding issues. Additionally, examples of good practice may still depend on the initiative and commitment of individual professionals, rather than the support of the organisation, including dedicated resources. Further research is required to ascertain the extent to which resource issues and t he drive to cut NHS healthcare budgets are limiting appropriate service provision for women with perinatal mental health needs. 5|Page There is always a need to elicit the views of the women who use the service. I would approach this by Iinking with our existing Maternity Service Liason comittee and carrying out appropriate patient satisfaction surveys and audit.
